This short Super-2 expressway serves as an express link from A-20 to Victoriaville agglomeration.
«This short limited access super-2 road has been numbered as a freeway because
it has been part of a bigger project, now abandoned. According to Olivier Massé, Route 955 is in fact the old routing
of A-55 that would have run near Victoriaville and Richmond, following R-116 corridor, instead of Drummondville, as it does
now. "When you cross the Route 116 interchange in Richmond, you can see very well that dynamiting plans were conceived
to accept a much bigger interchange, it's far bigger than it has to be. A-955/A-20 interchange is also demesurated, with C/D roads, etc. whereas traffic rates do not meet the needs of building this amount
of infrastructures."» From : Groupe Madituc École Polytechnique de Montréal
Autoroute 955 has been completed in 1979 after 4 years of construction (for a 14
kilometres section!). It is classified as a freeway but is in fact a Super-2 road with at-grade intersections. Very soon (mid-2005),
Autoroute 955 will be connected with its parent road (A-55) since this one is being completed from Saint-Wenceslas.
